As Corsicana Tigers welcome their new baseball turf at Price Field, Symmetry Turf has commenced second phase of construction for new football field and track, powered by Xtreme Turf by Act Global.
On a beautiful Friday night in Texas, the Corsicana Tigers played their inaugural game in their revamped baseball stadium, highlighted by the new Xtreme Turf artificial turf field.
Symmetry Turf, based in Mount Pleasant, Texas, completed the remodeling of the stadium in a record 60 days in order for the Corsicana seniors to be able to finish their season at home. Before a capacity crowd, the Tigers broke the new field in with a 10-3 win over visiting Nacogdoches High School.
The Tigers are now the “talk of the town“. After powering their way through playoffs, the team will play in Region II Class 5A Region Quarterfinals against Whitehouse at Price Field Friday night.
Dr. Diane Frost, Superintendent of Schools for Corsicana ISD, said that a sense of pride and excitement was evident on every face the day the players were able to set foot on the new field.
“Not only is the field visually attractive, it makes a statement that the district is committed to our students,” said Frost. “I have been very pleased at the attendance at games and community pride that has been shown by the fans.”
Corsicana’s new field is made entirely of synthetic turf, including the pitching mound and bullpens to offer the most durable and consistent surface possible. The artificial grass features a striking design of alternating green stripes, bordered by brown turf baselines. A Corsicana “C” logo is placed prominently in the center of the field in royal blue with gold trim.
The Xtreme Turf system, manufactured by Austin, Texas-based Act Global, is designed and tested to meet top quality standards for safety and sport performance. A premium blend of monofilament and fibrillated yarns lends high density, natural looking coverage, with the added durability of synthetic turf. The surface will withstand high-intensity use, and provides accurate ball bounce, ideal foot traction, shock absorption, and limits infill splash.
The all-weather surface offers more playing hours than natural grass, while also reducing the amount of water usage and field maintenance required. Corsicana’s athletics program will benefit from increased practice hours and additional scheduled events, as well as the subsequent revenue generation.
“In a practical sense, we have been able to use the field in conditions when the weather conditions would have made playing impossible. We moved several games to our field, giving the Tigers home field advantage,” said Frost.
The new baseball surface is the first in a series of synthetic turf upgrades for the district. Symmetry has begun the next phase of construction, which includes a state-of-the-art artificial turf football field, bordered by a new track. The full design-build will involve new base work, curbing, drainage and turf installation.
The project is slated for completion before high school graduation on June 3.
