FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUSTIN, TX

Local firm Act Global Sports supplies the city’s first artificial turf field

Austin, Texas (May 16, 2012) – The new Xtreme Turf synthetic field at Buck Egger Park in Round Rock is the first of its kind for the city. The field, funded through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), provides a quality sports surface for community members to enjoy. In addition to the play areas, Round Rock is allocating the grant towards construction of the parking lot, sidewalks and lighting system.

The CDBG is a federal grant program that helps communities address challenges facing their cities. Funds may be used for community development activities, construction of public facilities and improvements, public services and economic development, and job creation.

The synthetic turf was supplied by local manufacturer ACT Global Sports, based in Austin, Texas. The two-tone green, durable turf is an upgrade from the previous worn natural grass and dirt area. The Xtreme Turf system is comparable in quality and performance to some of the top professional fields around the world. As part of ACT Global’s standing as a FIFA Preferred Producer of football turf, their systems undergo rigorous scientific testing to meet the highest performance standards.

The trend of installing artificial grass is gaining traction, especially in dry climates where water restrictions are encouraged or mandated. According to John Baize, director of ACT Global Sports, the latest synthetic turf mimics natural grass in quality and appearance, but provides several additional benefits. Synthetic grass better withstands inclement weather conditions, offers extended usage over natural grass, and requires less maintenance and no water, which can provide significant time and money savings.

“We are proud to be a part of a successful, local project in our own neighborhood,” said Baize. “Safe parks and playing surfaces can have a positive physical and social impact on a community. We applaud the City of Round Rock for their creative funding solution to deliver a new level of enjoyment to the Round Rock community.”

Individuals or businesses interested additional funding options for synthetic turf systems in their neighborhoods can find more information at www.actglobalsports.com/fundraising or on the Synthetic Turf Council website www.syntheticturfcouncil.org.

ACT Global Completes Aviation Turf Project for US Air Force Academy

AvTurf

ACT Global Sports is excited to announce a recent synthetic aviation turf surface installation at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The project was completed with our partner AvTurf. At 1.4 million square feet, it is the world’s largest single area of synthetic turf.

The project was initiated following the Academy’s recent investment in a new fleet of TG-16 sailplanes. Vibrations during landing, ruts and depressions can cause harm to the planes. The firm, durable artificial turf reduces these hazards and greatly improves the life expectancy of the fleet. The use of AvTurf also aids in preventing erosion, wildlife management, reduction of foreign object debris/damage, increased water drainage and reduced maintenance. The Federal Aviation Administration has identified AvTurf as a tool to alleviate visibility issues for pilots during aircraft movements.

The team at ACT Global is proud to have been chosen to work on such a prestigious project as a training runway for the Air Force Academy.

Synthetic turf manufacturer donates trees to Carbonfund.org’s Million Tree Challenge for Earth Day 2012.

Austin, Texas (April 20, 2012) – As a socially-conscious company, ACT Global Sports is committed to maintaining a sustainable business model and reducing its environmental footprint. This year the company will honor Earth Day 2012 by donating trees to be planted as part of Carbonfund.org’s Million Tree Challenge.

Carbonfund.org launched the Million Tree Challenge on Earth Day 2010, and hopes to reach its goal of one million trees planted by the end of 2012. In celebration of this year’s Earth Day, Carbonfund.org has organized a “three-for-two” promotion, in which the company pledges to plant one tree for every two donated by it’s CarbonFree® partners. The trees are planted in formal, verified tree-planting projects all over the world.

ACT Global Sports joined the CarbonFree® partner program in 2008. The program allows businesses to calculate, reduce and offset their carbon footprint through regular donations, which are used for reforestation and various clean energy projects.

John Baize, director for ACT Global Sports, said the company is proud to be part of the global, collaborative effort to help Carbonfund.org reach its goal of one million trees. “ACT Global chooses to support companies that can have a positive impact on our environment and society,” said Baize. “Carbonfund.org is an admirable organization and we are pleased to call them a partner.”

The three-for-two promotion is running through the end of April, but interested individuals and businesses can plant trees year round by visiting http://carbonfund.org/offset/trees.
