Field Feature Friday: Beijing’s Bird Nest

Field Feature Friday: Beijing’s Bird Nest

The iconic Birds Next Stadium was designed and built as the main hub for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The large, open roof stadium has since become a venue used for high-profile events and as a tourist attraction. BNS remains a landmark that continues to draw in people from across the world for both the sight and for events.

Currently, outside the stadium, the management team is testing a pilot field crafted from Xtreme Grass. Inside Birds Nest is a traditional grass field that is both difficult and expensive to maintain and faces wear from the multitude of games and attractions hosted within the stadium. After the test field proves to be successful, the pitch inside the stadium will be resurfaced with the reinforced strength of Xtreme Grass. Xtreme Grass offers up to 30% more playing hours compared to natural grass alone and promotes faster, thicker growth of the grass blades.

Stay tuned for updates on Birds Nest Stadium!

As one of the top universities in Canada, Trent University offers exceptional resources to its students. The post-secondary institution is committed to providing an educational experience that is personal, purposeful, and transformative. Through both academic and extracurricular success, Trent University has been able to create a community that is challenging and supportive.

This year the University elected to resurface its original 2005 multipurpose athletics field to Act Global’s Xtreme Turf. The Excalibur now host practices and games on the most durable and safe brand of artificial grass available. This is essential for the soccer, rugby, and lacrosse teams that each utilize the pitch and require a high-quality surface for their performance. This installation was completed by our Canadian partner Carpell Surfaces. Carpell Surfaces is a leading supplier and installer of synthetic sports surfaces across Canada. Weekend Recap: Winning on Act Global Turf

This weekend was packed with games to watch and the Act Global team definitely stayed busy keeping up with all of our favorite teams. Check out some of the highlights that went down:

To say that Jefferson West had a good game on Friday would be quite the understatement. The Tigers not only held on to their undefeated streak, but they also had a complete 55-0 knock-out over Bishop Ward this weekend. We’ll see how well they do this week as they head into another home game this Friday against #32 state-ranked Hayden High School.

The University of Oregon looked like they were going to end the match in a tie Friday night, but in an exciting play within the last 2 minutes of the game, Marissa Everett scored a game-winning goal for a PAC-12 win.

Saturday kicked off with more wins on Act Global turf. The University of Houston Cougars dominated their game at TDECU Stadium 70-14.

Kentucky fans were ecstatic at Kroger field on Saturday, and the Act Global team stoked to see the Wildcats earn an impressive win over Mississippi State this weekend. The team moved up in the rankings to #17 within the NCAA- a first for the team in years. The whole team performed exceptionally, including running back Benny Snell. Snell is breaking records for UK and helping the team soar into a highly successful season.

The University of Hawaii capped off the weekend of wins on our turf with a Homecoming victory over Duquesne. The 42-21 win came after a slow start that threw fans for a loop, but the Warriors pulled together and quickly overtook the Dukes and secured the win.

It was an awesome weekend of games and Act Global is honored to have each of these fantastic teams play on our brand of turf.

During football season, every weekend is just a little bit better. Our team loves getting together with friends to host watch parties and attend live games at our favorite stadiums. Check out a few of the games we are most excited about this weekend!

Friday. September 21-

Jefferson West High School

The currently undefeated Tigers will be taking on the Bishop Ward Cyclones at home tonight, 7PM. Jefferson West is expected to win the non-conference match.

University of Oregon Ducks

Opening Pac-12 play for the Ducks, The University of Oregon will be hosting the University of Utah at Pape Field tonight. Tonight’s game is also alumni night, meaning Pape Field will be surrounded by past players supporting their team.

Saturday, September 22-

University of Houston

This weekend will be only the second time this season that the Cougars are playing at home at TDECU Stadium. The team and fans are excited to be returning home.

University of Kentucky

The Wildcats are coming home to Kroger Field, in a match against Mississippi State that could place them into the Top 25 rankings. This high-stakes game has the potential to take this already successful season to a historical level. The win won’t be easy against the #14 ranked Bulldogs, but the Saturday evening match is sure to be a good one.

University of Hawaii

It’s homecoming week at the Universtiy of Hawaii! Aloha Stadium will be full of students, fans, and alumni this weekend when the  Duquesne Dukes travel from Pennsylvania to this destination game.

Sunday, September 23-

Minnesota Vikings

Between Kirk Cousins and Minnesota’s home-field advantage, the Vikings are the preferred choice to come out of Sunday’s game with a win. This will be an easy game to watch and one of our favorites of football Sunday.

Each of these teams has home facilities that feature Act Global’s brand of synthetic turf. Selected for extreme strength and durability, alongside testing-backed player safety enhancements.  The surface combines science and technology with superior aesthetics to create the ultimate artificial grass system.
