Buzzards Bay, MA- Despite challenging weather conditions, Act Global of Austin, TX, working together with Argus Construction of Bedford, MA and Activitas Inc. of Dedham, MA, completed Commodore Hendy Field in time for the 2018 Buccaneers Baseball Season.
Massachusetts Maritime selected the Act Global synthetic turf system to increase playing time and offer more flexible usage for the baseball and soccer teams. With Spring and Summer baseball seasons upon us and athletes practicing long hours each week, it is important for coaches of all levels to be aware of what field surface their players are on. Many of the most common sports injuries are related to fatigue, which can be decreased with a sports surface that is specifically engineered for the types of movements baseball players take. Act Global tests its synthetic turf to ensure every detail of the turf matches up to the best natural grass fields with the additional advantages of increased frequency of usage, extra revenue generation, safety, longer playing sessions, and fewer canceled games.
Act Global’s artificial baseball grass systems have been tested for performance benchmarks against the 2017 World Series Champion’s natural grass field. The study of the Houston Astros’ field was conducted by an outside agency and reported on 8 test methods including shock absorption, deformation, energy restitution, gmax, head injury criteria, rotational friction/resistance, vertical ball rebound, and ball roll distance.
Previous to this study there was limited knowledge of baseball sport performance criteria and natural turf measurements. The technical assessment of the Houston Astros’ field provided key information to better understand the relationship between international synthetic turf standards and top-quality natural grass baseball fields.
In every facet of Act Global’s business culture, it has sought to address and service the needs of players with through its product. The exceptional quality of Act Global turf is a direct result of continuous investments in research and development, alongside benchmark and performance testing.
