In between the 1999 and 2002 seasons, the Cougars evolved into a Division 1 team. In 2015, Montigny Cougars became the biggest club in France with 255 licensees.  The team had an excellent 2016 season which included finishing 2nd in the regular championship and winning the title of French champion of Division 2, thus marking their return to Division 1 for the 2017 season.

Good luck to the Cougars on their 2018 season!

Field Feature Friday and the Playability of Act Global Synthetic Turf Systems

The University of Kentucky recently worked with Vescio’s SportsFields to isntall Act Global turf as the surface for their new outdoor soccer intramural fields.

Resized_20170928_112438001Intramural sports on college campuses are an awesome way for students to get involved with their peer community and promote their own health and happiness.  The University of Kentucky offers a variety of tournaments, clinics, and leagues to attract students of all skill levels who wish to get involved in sports.  The school strives to provide students with top quality resources to aid in a successful college career, including providing top quality turf systems to its intramural leagues.  For players and athletes of all skill levels, the quality of the surface they are playing on can have a significant impact on their safety and performance.  Act Global artificial turf is engineered with player safety as the number one consideration.  The University of Kentucky has taken excellent measures not only to promote the power of playing sports but also in keeping students safe while they do so.

Our technical director explains how our synthetic turf systems are designed to maximize player’s safety and comfort to soccer players:

  • Our surfaces are fast under the foot and provide sufficient firmness to limit fatigue injuries to the lower extremities of the player’s body. In other words, they provide the right balance between Shock Absorption (the surface absorbs lots of energy during the impact thus provides safety) and Deformation (the surface does not deform too much during the impact thus provides springiness and performance). To give a bad example: a beach of sand will absorb lots of energy when you run on it but deforms too much under the feet thus creates feet instability and risks of fatigue injuries.20170928_112435
  • Our surface is designed to provide proper Rotational Resistance (traction) to ensure foot stability and to enable quick release of the shoes during rotation and traction movements. If Rotational Resistance is too high, you have a risk of twisting knees, ankles. If it is too low, a risk of slippery over the surface.
  • Our surface maintains consistent and uniform ball-to-surface interactions (ball bounce, ball roll) for a better ball control. Soccer players want to have consistent ball-to-surface interactions wherever they play, from pitch to pitch, in order to adapt quickly to new conditions of play. Our rubber and sand mix is adjusted to absorb sufficient energy at the impact of the ball in order to get a bounce that is not too high. Our Bonar yarn is a blend of winged diamond and diamond shape yarns, the 1rst one provides softness to the skin for comfort and the second is stiff to ensure the ball roll is sufficiently slowed down and the ball is controlled properly during the dribbles.

Distinguished New York High School Installs Act Global Synthetic Turf

Bronxville Union Free School District just upgraded their multipurpose field to Act Global synthetic turf.

The square-mile suburb outside of New York City is nationally recognized for excellence in academics and extracurricular activities.  Not only was the high school ranked #5 overall in the country by Newsweek, but the town is known to attract successful artists looking to settle down.

The new artificial grass field will be a center point of athletics for the 1600 students enrolled at the high school.  The synthetic turf system will be utilized by both the football teams, the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, and the soccer teams.  The extensively engineered surface is unmatched in durability, meaning that each of the Broncos teams will have a consistent playing surface.  The proven performance of our turf keeps athletes of all sports protected from the most common injuries related to fatigue, including sprains, fractures, bruises and abrasions, and internal organs and concussions.

Good luck to the Bronxville Broncos on the 2017-2018 sports season!

Gallery: Marin Catholic’s Bishop Daly Synthetic Turf Field

Marin Catholic’s Bishop Daly field is a multipurpose synthetic turf facility in Kentfield, California.  For 15 years leading up to this past August, the high school student-athletes were facing safety concerns and hazards revolving around the previous natural grass and bordering vegetation.

Our awesome partners at The KYA Group arranged this complete field renovation for the Wildcats.  The most noticeable part of this install is the baseball diamond and outfield crafted from Act Global artificial grass.  Our baseball turf is not only proven to be the most durable fibrillated yarn product on the market, but it is also benchmarked against top natural grass training facilities, including the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros.  Because of the extensive research and development that has gone into our baseball turf, the Wildcats have a consistent surface for peak player performance.

The unrivaled durability of our yarn is essential to providing an excellent multi-play experience.  Bishop Daly field is utilized by the field hockey team in the fall and the baseball team in the spring.  While the baseball team now has an unparalleled playing surface, the field hockey team too now has a professional hockey system.

Weekend Recap on Our Turf: Army vs Tulane

The Saturday morning game between the Army Black Knights and Tulane’s Green Wave was held at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Both teams were hoping to recover from losing the previous weekend to more talented teams.  In the end, predictions placing Tulane on top proved to be correct when the Green wave beat out the Black Nights 21-17.

The game was close and Army held the lead for most of the second, third, and fourth quarter.  In the last 30 seconds, Tulane scored a touchdown that put them at a four-point lead over the Black Nights.  With such a small amount of time left on the clock, Army did not have time to recover.

Yulman Stadium had its grand opening in 2014 with a home opener for Tulane against former rival Georgia Tech.  The game sold out all 30,000 seats.  Previous to the opening of Yulman, Tulane shared a home stadium with the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  When choosing the new synthetic turf surface for Yulman, Tulane chose to keep the same trusted surface that was used installed in the Superdome.  This line of artificial grass is used by collegiate and professional teams across the country and has hosted teams for several Super Bowls.  Act Global is proud to produce such a tested and respected line of synthetic turf systems.    With more than 100 individual laboratory tests and benchmarks against top natural grass systems, Act Global s synthetic turf is a proven surface for safety, durability, and performance.
