Native American day is a holiday celebrated in various forms by California, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Nevada. The day is filled with activities surrounded with traditions, culture, and background of Native Americans.
One piece of Native American culture lives on today through the sport of lacrosse. A version of the sport is documented back to 17th century America by immigrants settling the Northeast. The games were major events that took place over several days and were contests played by tribal warriors for training, recreation and religious reasons. The Native American game of lacrosse could involve anywhere from 100-1,000 players of opposing tribes and play could stretch across miles of land
The start of the game was signaled by tossing the ball, often made of wood, stuffed deerskin, or skulls of small animals, up in the air where players would race to catch it. The ball could not touch a players hand and there was no out-of-bounds on these open fields. The goal was to score on one of three stick poles, which were marked at different heights to signify one point earned, two points earned, or three points earned.
Today lacrosse has transformed into an international sport that is played at the grade school, intercollegiate, and professional level. The vast fields ridden with natural features such as rocks and trees have been replaced with even surfaces with standard dimensions.
Our field feature this week is a lacrosse facility in California. Dominican University of California men’s lacrosse is a Division II team in the Pacific West Coast conference. The team was a founding member of the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, the first association west of the Mississippi River. Dominican won the WILA in 2013 and 2014 before transitioning to the MCLA for the 2015 season.
Our lacrosse artificial turf is engineered and tested to provide a superior playing surface by offering greater speed and precision. This surface continues to be an exceptional playing field for the Penguins.

Act Global congratulates the USAF on 70 years and thanks the men and women who have served our country since 1947.
In the years since Chief Justice Fred Vinson swore in Stuart Symington as the first secretary of the air force, the military branch has continued to adapt in serving our nation. As technologies progress, the United States Air Force continues its critical mission “to fly, fight and win … in the air, space and cyberspace”.
Celebrations for the past 70 years kicked off this weekend with a three-day event to draw in the community. The expo led up to the Air Force’s 21st annual marathon that took place this morning and drew in an estimated 13,500 runners and walkers from all 50 states and 13 foreign countries. The President visited Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, Maryland on Friday to celebrate the anniversary and thank the Airmen for “keeping America proud, strong, safe, and free.”
We are honored to have a small role in the education of Airmen at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. In 2011 we had the opportunity to work with the USAFA to supply a sailplane landing area (SPLA) for the school. About 50% of the cadets within the Air Force Academy will take courses in soaring sailplanes and glider jets. This education in aviation and airmanship familiarizes the cadets with important aspects of the Air Force, and our AvTurf continues to give these pilots a successful and smooth landing surface.

- In 2012, 1,353,750 children under age 19 visited an emergency room for a sports injury.
- 1 in 3 was injured seriously enough to miss practices or games, and some suffer life-long consequences.
With millions of athletes participating in sports every year, injury prevention must be a top priority of the industry. At Act Global, we understand and address the needs of player safety so that athletes can have the confidence they need to excel on the field because not all surfaces are created the same. What many parents, coaches, and athletic directors do not realize is that a field can significantly impact a player’s safety and performance. We make it a priority to invest in research and development opportunities to create a perfectly engineered surface for each field sport. Each of our synthetic turf systems has a specific shape, density, pile height, backing, and Gmax rating to reduce the most common injuries including:
- Fractures 18%
- Sprains 33%
- Bruises & Abrasions 16%
- Internal Organ Injuries & Concussions (12%)
We take it upon ourselves to explore each component of our turf systems to create a durable and reliable solution to traditional artificial grass. Due to our commitment to quality and safety, Act Global synthetic turf is designed and built to stringent performance and safety standards, per international guidelines set by FIFA, FIH, World Rugby. We have conducted tests against the best natural grass benchmarks for football, baseball, and American football, as well as had our results verified by independent field tests and certifications.
We make this commitment to the safety of athletes because our mission to “Be More” is ingrained in every facet of our business. We believe the best moments in sports happen on the best quality synthetic turf. It is our promise to never stop innovating and seeking excellence.

Millfield Hockey in Somerset, England. Featuring Xtreme Turf and Certified to FIH Global elite level play. Installation and picture by Verde Recreo.
Field Hockey is a team sport that has been played since the Middle Ages in parts of Europe and has roots in a similar game played in Ancient Greece as early as 510 BC. The sport continues to be extremely popular in international countries and brings the world together in competition at the Olympic Games, World Cup, World League, Champions Trophy and Junior World Cup.
In the United states, field hockey is regionally centralized to the Northeasters states, extending from Massachusetts down to Virginia. It is also female dominated and mainly played throughout high school and college aged students.
The sport is extremely intricate in rules and game play, which has led to its slow-but-steady growth throughout the US. The reason that field hockey less ubiquitous in the American sports landscape is that the sport’s complexity can make it difficult to learn when compared with simpler field sports such as soccer. Once understood, it is a high paced sport full of strategy.
Efforts by USA Field Hockey are to continue to grow the game by creating a stronger presence of the sport. The governing body is utilizing social media platforms to reach athletes across the country, as well as hosting events and workshops for hands-on skill growth.
As an FIH preferred supplier of synthetic turf, Act Global is committed to the highest industry standards to grow and sustain the game of hockey. We engineer high performing, FIH-approved turf systems, suitable for all levels of play, from elite to developmental hockey. We support USA Field Hockey’s efforts to grow the game and spread the joy of play.
