Today is the final day of competition in the 2017 Homeless World Cup. The past seven days have been filled with football and fellowship, as well as moments of growth for each of the players. For the final round of play, each team will have one more opportunity to take to the field and represent their country.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway kicked off the tournament last Tuesday at the Opening Ceremony. Since then, 54 countries consisting of over 500 players have competed on the three synthetic turf fields set up in Norway’s capital city. The tournament has already proved to be impactful in the lives of this year’s players. The sense of camaraderie and community that has fostered in this year’s players is unprecedented.
In the match for bronze in the men’s bracket, Greece and Australia rejected the traditional separate pregame rituals. Instead, the teams united together for a joined huddle.

The 29-year-old from Ireland, James Nolan, has a renewed sense of self-worth. He plans to return home and focus on attaining a permanent, safe home that will allow him to see his kids more.
England’s Marek Hyde has gone from a Heroin addict who sold his passport for a high to a full-time employee who is able to support himself. Hyde credits the sport of football with aiding in his recovery and rehabilitation into society.
19-year-old Rupanti Kumari from India has said that the tournament has opened new doors for her after her father’s death due to illness and brother’s death due to a terrorist attack. Kumari grew up working on a farm in an area of India that is now dangerous. The HWC has given Rupanti the opportunity to pursue a career in coaching football to inspire other girls to play as well.

With over 100 million people living without adequate housing worldwide, this tournament hopes to both decrease this number and change the public’s perception towards homelessness. We’re proud to work with this organization by providing the artificial grass surfaces that each of these teams compete on. With the superior safety and engineering of our turf to reduce player injuries, we aim to keep these teams protected while they play.

The rain hasn’t stopped the Mount Dora Bulldogs from debuting their new synthetic turf field.
The turf for Tom Jett Field was one of the final pieces in finishing the Bulldog’s new stadium. Chronic rain has been an issue for the school’s last football field, so the new artificial grass system will ensure that the team has a safe surface to play on. The all-weather turf includes a new drainage system that will allow players to get back on the field quicker after rain and play more hours each week. Mount Dora Christian Academy is also the only school in the Lake County area to have a stadium that features artificial turf.
The grand opening of the new athletic facility took place last Friday, August 25th on the Bulldog’s first game of the season. The team took home a win over Legacy charter with a final score of 35-19. Tonight the Bulldog’s will be hosting another home game, facing off against Bayshore Christian at 7 PM.
Good luck to the Bulldogs tonight, hope you pull another win!

It is the final day of preseason games, and this evening will be a full schedule with 16 games. Our turf fields will be the hosts of 3 of these games: the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the New York Jets, the Baltimore Ravens vs. the New Orleans Saints, and the Los Angeles Chargers vs. the San Francisco 49ers.
Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Jets (6 PM CST)
The 2-1 Eagles will be using the final game of the preseason to give roster hopefuls the opportunity to prove themselves as members of the team. The Eagles are still attempting to put together a winning team after 2016’s disappointing 7-9 record. The Jets are currently 1-2 this preseason and are also attempt to turn the team around from last season’s 5-11 record. Overall, the roster looks different with 2 RBs and the past QB gone.
The teams look evenly matched going into tonight’s game, with the Eagles just slightly ahead of the Jets in preseason yards per game. Both teams also have players out with injuries.
Baltimore Ravens @ New Orleans Saints (7 PM CST)
With 22 players injured throughout the preseason, the Ravens will be extremely lacking in starting players. Going forward, many of the player’s game status is questionable, but the team holds a 3-0 record for the preseason. The Saints have gone 2-1 this preseason and will be competing for the second time on their new field in the Superdome. Breakout rookie RB Alvin Kamara will be making another debut on the field after sitting out game 3.
Overall the matchup is fairly even, with the Saints leading in offensive total yards per game, passing yards per game, and rush yards per game.
Los Angeles Chargers @ San Francisco 49ers (9 PM CST)
The Chargers are going into this final game with a 1-2 record. Despite a losing preseason, the Chargers will not be putting in many starters, but rather focus on giving rookies and backups a chance to shine on the field. The same is true for the 2-1 49ers, who have elected to sit on many of their starters. The 49ers will focus its efforts on trimming down the current 53-man roster.
The 49ers are expected to have a slight home-field advantage in tonight’s game. Additionally, the 49ers have won the past 7 consecutive preseason games against the Chargers.
Each of these games will be competed on an Act Global brand of synthetic turf. This artificial grass is engineered and tested to offer a superior playing surface for the players by increasing safety and comfort.

Marin Catholic is a private college preparatory school dedicated to providing students with a foundation in faith, knowledge, and service.
For the Wildcats, renovations to the Bishop Daly field could not come soon enough. Last season teams were forced to navigate tree roots growing in the outfield from the bordering vegetation. Because the field is co-occupied by both the baseball and the field hockey team, Marin Catholic utilized the summer break to address growing safety concerns.
After 15 years, the school selected Act Global’s synthetic turf for both the infield and the outfield. Our California partner, The KYA Group, helped in arranging and installing the Wildcat’s new surface.
Adan Callan, the school’s athletic director has noted that “Everyone is excited for the project to be complete… and the students are excited to play on it.”
The multi purpose turf offers high-speed play with ideal traction and stability to enhance player protection. Our artificial grass is benchmarked against top natural grass facilities to ensure precise engineering of our surfaces. Because our products are developed using maximum UV inhibitors to withstand heavy use, our synthetic turf is a durable surface that will last longer and perform better under the use of multiple teams.
To minimize undergrowth trip hazards in the future, the previous trees in place will be replaced with palm trees.
Yesterday was the first practice of the women’s field hockey team on the new turf at Bishop Daly. Good luck on the fall season, and Go Wildcats!

This past weekend the New Orleans Saints’ new artificial grass was debuted at the Mecerdes-Benz Superdome. Both fans and the media immediately recognized the upgrade to the stadium, and the change was met with positive remarks on social media and the press.
Nick Underhill, a journalist for the New Orleans Advocate remarks below on Twitter:
In another piece by The Advocate, reporter Scott Robalais starts off the article that analyzes Saturday night’s game with: “First off, the new turf inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome looks great. A much more vibrant green than the old rug”.
The Saints performed excellently on the new turf, completely shutting down the Texans. The final score was 13-0 with Darius Victor named “Player of the Game” for his 8 carries, 30 rushing yards, and single touchdown.
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on the win, we’re counting down the days until the season opener!
