Thank You SMA

We would like to thank the Stadium Managers Association for their efforts to support safe and efficient stadium and ballpark operations.  Since 1974, this group of industry leaders sources critical and relevant information, guidelines, and resources for the betterment of athletic operations.  SMA helps advance the technology and design utilized by stadiums so that both athletes and fans can benefit from an enhanced experience.

This year marked SMA’s 43rd annual seminar, continuing its legacy of bringing together top experts from all sectors of the stadium industry.  The 5-day event from February 4-8 is currently being hosted in Coronado, California.  The keynote speaker, Paul C. Zikopoulos, presented data showing how to use live event analytics to generate revenue and better engage fans.  It is vital for the stadium industry to employ emerging sciences in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, and machine learning to create smarter, safer, and more entertainment venues.

Act Global Vice President John Burke attended the seminar both to learn from industry leaders what is sought after in a synthetic turf system and to educate others on the importance of constant R&D into the betterment of artificial grass.  Act Global turf surfaces have more than 100 laboratory tests to verify performance and are benchmarked against top natural grass stadia for football, baseball, and American football.

Countdown to Minneapolis: The Recap

The Philadelphia Eagles ended their 2016 with a losing record.

At 7-9 the Eagles ended their season last year at week 17 without making it to the playoffs.  An overall mediocre season with a few glistening highlights, the Eagles solidified themselves as an underdog going into the fall 2017 season.  This reputation followed the team for the past six months, even as the Eagles qualified for Super Bowl LII against the five-time champion, the New England Patriots.  This is a title that the Philadelphia Eagles had never won.

Yesterday’s game was brimming with thrilling plays that despite the Eagles keeping a constant lead, left fans engrossed in the action.  Patriots quarterback  Tom Brady even set a Super Bowl record yesterday after completing 505 passing yards.  Eagles quarterback Nick Foles set his own history as well in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game after becoming the first QB to catch a touchdown pass.   However, despite the Patriot’s dominant resume and roster-including MVP Tom Brady- the team fell short of winning their sixth Super Bowl rings.  The Eagles fought for their win with passion and spirit for their city that ecstatically sang ” Fly Eagles Fly” in celebration following the teams win.

Since the opening of U.S. Bank Stadium, Act Global’s brand of synthetic turf has been the surface of choice.  It is one of the leading synthetic turf systems in the world and used by many NFL and NCAA Division 1 teams.  The artificial grass system has a history of proven playability, durability, and safety for NFL teams.  The surface combines science and technology with superior aesthetics to create the ultimate artificial grass system.

How Airports Will Cope With Sharp Increase in Flights

Did you know, there will be an estimated 50% increase in flights throughout the world by 2035?

Air transport has revolutionized our world economically, socially, and culturally.  It has aided in connecting people from across borders to foster links between nations of all sizes and generate access to global markets.  It has driven travel and tourism to promote a more global society.  It has expanded people’s access to cultural experiences and increased their access to leisure destinations.  Air travel has also been essential to economic growth.

In a study published by IATA this past December, it has been found that the aviation industry currently supports 62.7 million jobs globally through direct employment, related sector employment, and associated employment from tourism.  Aviation has been estimated to have a complete global economic impact of $2.7 trillion.  This is generated in part by the 1,402 commercial airlines with 26,065 aircraft in service and 3,883 airports with 32.8 million commercial flights worldwide.

With the projection of flights on the rise for the next two decades, it is important for airports to take steps now to improve the operational and functional efficiency of their facilities.  Investments must be made in products that will last and have the ability to withstand heavy use. AvTurf is a synthetic turf system that provides comprehensive ground safety enhancements and erosion control to make airplane takeoffs and landings more effective and efficient.
