The University of Sherbrooke has started renovation work of its track and field. Act Global partner, Carpell Surfaces, has been chosen to lead and install a new surface for the university’s upcoming races and major competitions, as well as provide removable synthetic grass goal areas, better known as removable end zones, for the football field located inside the track, with turf provided by Act Global! Currently, the Michel Leclerc group is completing the demolition work and the project should be completed before autumn! The future’s looking bright!
So, this begs the question: what are removable end zones and why are they so cool?
Removable end zones are easier to maintain because instead of having to paint new logos of competing teams onto existing end zone turf, new end zones can be manufactured and then swapped out. An example of a stadium doing this is the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It can often be too difficult to remove paint already used for logos and names and replace them with other teams. This makes the overall process easier.
Act Global and Carpell Surfaces are excited for these upcoming months! We look forward to bringing the university a one of a kind track and field with awesome removable end zones, second to none!

It’s time for another partner spotlight! JNC Premier Pitches & Fencing recently converted the Rathcoole Boys Football Club’s existing natural grass playing pitch into a full size synthetic turf soccer pitch with Act Global’s synthetic grass turf on a shock pad system and ancillary works!
The purpose of the Rathcoole Boys Football Club is to supply soccer for the boys and girls of Rathcoole, Saggart and the surrounding areas. Act Global is proud to have teamed up JNC Premier Pitches & Fencing to provide the club a new synthetic turf field for the kids to be able to enjoy and play more soccer.

Act Global and partner Premier Pitches & Fencing are proud of the work done at the Rathcoole Boys Football Club! We look forward to the future and provide only the best in every project!

A lot happened this weekend in the world of sports, and we wanted to give some shout outs to the US teams and athletes.
First, the US Women’s Lacrosse team won their eighth World Cup title. The win was a hard fought battle against the Canadian Women’s team who held their own against the US. The game ended with a 10-5 final score.
Sarah Bullard, a 10 year veteran of the US nationals team who won her fourth gold medal, explained that each World Cup win is a new experience:
“Every one is different, and it never gets old. This is the most talented team I’ve ever been a part of, but what’s more special is how selfless they are, how much we are and how we want to be there for each others.”
Next for the team is The World games, a multisport event that kicks off on Thursday in Poland. The event, organized by the International World Games Association, is the first hurdle in achieving Olympic recognition.
Next, competition in the 2017 Gold Cup heated up this past weekend as teams competed in the semi-finals. On Saturday the US Men’s team battled against Costa Rica in the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas. At half time the game was tied at 0-0, and it wasn’t until two second-half goals in the span of 10 minutes that the US secured their win. The final score was 2-0, with the US advancing to the finals. The final game is this Wednesday, July, 26; the US will be playing against Jamaica at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Finally, Clint Dempsey, a striker for the US Men’s Soccer Team, tied with Landon Donovan as MNT All-Time Leading Scorer. His 82nd minute strike in the game against Costa Rica was the 57th of his international career. The Texas native provided the team with the spark and assist that helped send the USA to the 2017 Gold Cup Finals.
Congrats to all the players of both these teams on their accomplishments!

The artificial grass manufacturer works with Caribbean government to install a public football facility to promote the growth of sport and recreation within the youth.
Austin, TX- As one of the many projects developed by the Changuinola government, a synthetic turf football pitch was installed in Finca 4. The facility was created for the population living in the area, and has already has been so popular that a second field is in the works.
Finca 4 is a small farming community within the city of Changuinola, located in the Bocas Del Toro providence of Panama. The city is the capital of Bocas del Toro and home to just over 30,000 people. Everyone living within this zone, as well as soccer teams in the area, will have access to the turf field. The government hopes that through this field, as well as future fields, more of the youth will choose to participate in football.
Act Global partnered with Technologia Sintetica Deportiva to install this 49MTS X 94MTS synthetic turf field, composed of the highest quality fibers. Because Changuinola is a coastal city with a tropical rainforest climate, heavy rain and thunderstorms are frequent with no predictable dry season. Xtreme Turf, the artificial grass used in the facility, will allow residents to play on the pitch all year without the fear of mud or need for constant upkeep. The DX-60 line was engineered to withstand heavy use and harsh climates, to last longer and perform better. This means residents will have full access to the recreational facility all year, giving them the tool they need to play more.
Based on the instant success of Finca 4, Cancha Sintetica has also ordered a second field (5,000 square meters) to expand the sport facility to Finca 11.

An athlete’s time spent training for their sport is comparable to that of a full time job. Athletes spend hours upon hours in practice; for orientation week in football, 14 hour days are often the norm. The NLRB estimates that a student athlete will spend 1,750 hours a year performing some sort of practice. With this many hours dedicated by an athlete, it is important that the playing surface utilized by athletes is safe.
Due to speculations brought up against the health safety of synthetic turf fields, the EPA launch a full-fledged investigation in February of 2016 to test these unfounded claims. The initiative was aimed at finding any “gaps” in the industry’s knowledge of safety concerns regarding artificial turf products. However, even after almost a year and a half, all data has shown that “exposure to any chemicals present in recycled rubber is not meaningfully different from exposure to urban or rural soil”. The EPA’s study is in addition to the 90 other peer-reviewed academic analyses and government reports that have confirmed synthetic turf’s safety as well.
“In short, the only issue left unsettled in the recycled rubber debate is whether the EPA and its fellow agencies will conclude their study in a timely way or at least issue a statement to the public to put a prompt end to today’s uncertainty. Certainly given this recent wave of new science, there are many better uses of taxpayer dollars and the agency’s time.”
