The University of Sherbrooke has started renovation work of its track and field. Act Global partner, Carpell Surfaces, has been chosen to lead and install a new surface for the university’s upcoming races and major competitions, as well as provide removable synthetic grass goal areas, better known as removable end zones, for the football field located inside the track, with turf provided by Act Global! Currently, the Michel Leclerc group is completing the demolition work and the project should be completed before autumn! The future’s looking bright!
So, this begs the question: what are removable end zones and why are they so cool?
Removable end zones are easier to maintain because instead of having to paint new logos of competing teams onto existing end zone turf, new end zones can be manufactured and then swapped out. An example of a stadium doing this is the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It can often be too difficult to remove paint already used for logos and names and replace them with other teams. This makes the overall process easier.
Act Global and Carpell Surfaces are excited for these upcoming months! We look forward to bringing the university a one of a kind track and field with awesome removable end zones, second to none!

This week’s Field Feature Friday showcases this beautiful installation at PAREF Southridge School in Metro Manila. Installed by our Philippines partner, Specicon Inc., full maintenance training was provided and provisions were made for the school to help maintain their new field to the highest standard for years to come. Children who attend the school will now have the opportunity to enjoy a new sports turf field!
The turf used was Act Global’s Xtreme Turf SX50. Due to a carefully engineered subsoil drainage system facility made from a traditional dynamic stone base, the facility is able to withstand heavy monsoon rains. This especially important given the location and climate of the Phillippines. The SBR performance infill for the field was supplied by Genan AS from Denmark.
The Act Global team is proud of the work done for this installation!

It’s time for another partner spotlight! JNC Premier Pitches & Fencing recently converted the Rathcoole Boys Football Club’s existing natural grass playing pitch into a full size synthetic turf soccer pitch with Act Global’s synthetic grass turf on a shock pad system and ancillary works!

Construction has commenced for renovation of running track and new synthetic turf field for Liberty-Eylau ISD in Texas, supplied by Symmetry and Act Global.
Student athletes at Liberty-Eylau ISD will be greeted by upgraded sporting facilities this fall, to include a new state-of-the-art synthetic turf field and running track.
“This project will give the entire Liberty-Eylau community yet another point of pride,” said Matt Fry, director of communications for Liberty-Eylau ISD. “Every Friday night our stadium is full of members of the community. Liberty-Eylau has a rich history of athletic excellence. Now we will have a field of equal excellence.”
Symmetry, a leading sports field contractor based in Mount Pleasant, Texas, was awarded the contract to upgrade the stadium. The company broke ground Monday, June 27, to begin excavation of the existing natural grass surface.
The new synthetic sports field will be used for football and soccer, and will showcase a premium synthetic turf blend called Xtreme Turf, from manufacturing partner Act Global. The artificial turf is designed and tested to meet top natural grass benchmarks for safety and performance, including optimal shock absorption, traction and low abrasion. The striking field design features alternating green turf stripes, a prominent red centerfield logo, and Liberty-Eylau branded end zones.
Highly durable artificial turf offers more playing hours than natural grass, so Liberty-Eylau will encounter fewer cancellations due to weather or poor field conditions. The district will also save on field maintenance labor, costs and water usage.
“Recent years have seen many games cancelled or affected by excess rain. The greatest benefit we see for this project is having a field that is playable in all conditions,” said Fry.
In total, the Harris Field project will involve excavation, soil stabilization, base and drainage, turf installation and track resurfacing. The project is slated for completion September 2016.

New multi field sports installation features Act Global Xtreme Turf
To meet the needs of the growing number of sports players in The Woodlands, as well as realize cost savings, the township has replaced six natural grass recreational fields with durable, all-weather synthetic turf.
The playing surfaces were supplied by artificial turf manufactured by Act Global, and feature high quality, UV resistant, durable synthetic turf. The artificial turf aids significantly in water conservation and maintenance costs, and can accommodate far more playing hours than natural grass fields. While synthetic turf fields are not maintenance free, they do require significantly less time and money to keep up than natural grass fields.
Approximately 544,600 square feet of all-weather turf was installed between Bear Branch Sportfields One, Three, Four and Six and Alden Bridge Sportspark Multipurpose Fields One and Two. The fields are being consistently utilized for tournaments, community members and by players of all ages.
