Minneapolis’ multipurpose venue for major sports, music, and cultural events has been recognized by Athletic Business magazine as a pinnacle facility.
The Facility of Merit Awards are announced each October after a rotating panel of leading architects convenes to select the top 10. Selections are based on the following categories: plan efficiency; functional relationships and measures taken to maximize use of space; interior finishes, detailing and color schemes; exterior design; the relationship of building to site; and cost of construction for value received.
At 1.7 million square-feet, U.S. Bank Stadium opened in 2016 as the new home for the Minnesota Vikings and as the host for several prominent sporting events. The venue was designed on the basis of climate and culture of Minneapolis with exceptional quality and comfort for the fans that frequent the facility. The architects that created U.S. bank were exceptionally thoughtful in each design element that was implemented to be beautiful while functional. The transparent roof illuminates the interior with natural light and protects it from snow while acting as a “heat reservoir” to store solar heat and reducing energy usage by 16%.
Act Global is honored to have its brand of turf within U.S. Bank, a venue that was conscientiously crafted in each detail. Act Global synthetic turf is engineered and tested to offer a superior playing surface for players, as proven by a variety of benchmark tests and quality and durability checks.
3 of the judges from the panel gave raving remarks about the U.S. Bank Stadium:
“Monumental, striking and memorable. The sheer scale of this powerful abstract Viking form is impressive and bigger than life. Hard not to be consumed by all this facility has to offer the fan experience on game day.” — Troy Sherrard
“Dramatic design derived from a concept connecting the history of the Vikings and Nordic design to a bold and aggressive modern facility.” — Kalman Nagy
“Creative seating bowl and long-span solution. I appreciate the fresh approach to the building type. A bold form that derives from the local climate and Viking precedents.” — Stephen Sefton
Congratulation to U.S. Bank on this momentous award!
